Cardinals’ Ivan Herrera Placed on Injured List, Nick Raposo Called Up

The St. Louis Cardinals have made roster adjustments due to injury concerns and player transactions, impacting their catching corps ahead of a crucial stretch in the season.

Catcher Ivan Herrera has been sidelined, retroactive to June 19, as he hits the 10-day injured list due to lower back tightness, the team announced. Herrera, a promising talent behind the plate, will undergo treatment and rehabilitation to recover from the discomfort in his back.

To fill Herrera’s roster spot, the Cardinals have selected Nick Raposo from their minor league system. Raposo, who has been performing solidly in the minors, earns his first call-up to the big leagues amid the team’s need for depth at the catching position.

Additionally, to accommodate Raposo on the 40-man roster, St. Louis made a corresponding move by transferring Keynan Middleton from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Middleton, who recently underwent flexor tendon surgery, faces an extended recovery period and will miss the remainder of the season. The roster adjustment allows the Cardinals to maintain flexibility while managing their pitching resources moving forward.

The Cardinals, currently navigating through a competitive season, will rely on Raposo’s readiness and adaptability behind the plate as they aim to sustain their momentum in the standings. Herrera’s absence underscores the team’s depth challenges but presents an opportunity for Raposo to showcase his skills at the highest level of professional baseball.

St. Louis fans and observers will be monitoring Raposo’s debut closely, eager to see how he contributes to the team’s ongoing pursuit of success in a challenging divisional race.
