Colorado Rockies Star Player Hits Stride Rebounding Strong After Injury Return
DENVER — Nolan Jones returned from back and knee injuries eager to make an impact for the Rockies. In his first five starts back, Jones showed promise by reaching base safely in each game, drawing five walks over last Friday and Saturday, and collecting three hits on Sunday.
However, compared to his rookie season where he hit 20 home runs and totaled 46 extra-base hits, Jones felt the need to do more than rely solely on walks.
Reflecting on his recent performance, Jones acknowledged his patience at the plate but also expressed frustration with missing opportunities to hit. This frustration turned to satisfaction during the Rockies’ 11-5 loss to the Nationals on Friday night at Coors Field, when Jones smashed a home run off Nationals starter DJ Herz in the fourth inning.
Jones’ solo shot, launched 425 feet with a 108.7 mph exit velocity, highlighted his 2-for-3 performance that evening. Before his injuries, Jones had been struggling with a .170 batting average, one home run, and 37 strikeouts in 103 plate appearances.
Since returning, however, he has shown improvement, batting .389 (7-for-18) with a .556 on-base percentage, boosted by his newfound patience and timely hitting.
Despite Jones’ offensive spark, the Rockies faced challenges on the mound as starter Dakota Hudson struggled, surrendering eight earned runs in just three innings. The team’s pitching woes contributed to a 2-10 record over the homestand, although offensive contributions like Jones’ home run continue to inspire optimism among the Rockies.
Looking ahead, Rockies manager Bud Black praised Jones’ impactful swing and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to find consistency as they strive for better results in their upcoming games.
