The Red Sox made a roster move ahead of the middle game of their series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on Saturday.
In a press release, Boston announced the reinstatement of Wilyer Abreu from the 10-day injured list. To accommodate his return on the active roster, Bobby Dalbec has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester.
Abreu had been sidelined since June 2 due to a right ankle sprain, sustained when he stumbled entering the dugout during a game against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park. His IL stint was retroactive to June 3. During his rehab assignment with Worcester this week, the 24-year-old performed well, batting 3-for-12 with two home runs, two RBI, and a walk across three games.
Meanwhile, Dalbec, 28, has struggled this season, posting one home run, eight RBIs, and a .410 OPS in 37 games with the Red Sox. He split his playing time between first base and designated hitter roles.
Abreu is slated to start in right field and bat second in Saturday’s lineup against the Reds, with the game scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. ET. Full coverage will be available on NESN, including an hour of pregame analysis.
