Lakers’ Trade Proposal Could Add $208 Million All-Star

The NBA is swiftly transitioning from the Finals to the summer offseason, with the Lakers emerging as a team with intriguing possibilities. Despite recent coaching drama, their top target in trade discussions remains Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell, eligible for a lucrative $208 million extension with Cleveland, may decide to stay, but if the Cavs opt to rebuild around Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, Mitchell could become a focal point in trade talks again, with the Lakers keenly interested.

According to a league executive speaking to Heavy Sports, Mitchell remains the Lakers’ primary target if a trade opportunity arises. The Lakers envision Mitchell as an ideal fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, potentially becoming a cornerstone for the team’s future. While speculation leans towards Mitchell staying in Cleveland, there’s also uncertainty about his long-term commitment, leaving the door open for potential trade scenarios.

Lakers guard Austin Reaves would be part of a major package to add Donovan Mitchell.

If Mitchell indicates he won’t re-sign with the Cavs, the Lakers could offer a competitive package, likely centered around Austin Reaves and other assets, including future first-round draft picks.

Despite the appeal of Mitchell’s talent and potential fit, the Lakers would face tough competition, particularly from teams like Miami. However, Mitchell’s age (27) and impressive stats make him a prized acquisition target in a potentially competitive market this summer.
