Phillies’ Setback: Key Pitcher Lands on Injured List

Taijuan Walker (right index finger inflammation)

Status: 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 22
Walker is dealing with inflammation and a blister on his right index finger. While he can still throw a fastball, he can’t throw his effective splitter due to the injury. RHP Michael Mercado has been called up to fill his roster spot. Manager Rob Thomson has not provided a specific timeline for Walker’s return. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 23)

Kody Clemens (low back spasms)

Status: 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 31
Clemens will play seven innings in left field at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. After going 0-for-2 on Friday, he went 2-for-5 with a home run on Saturday. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 23)

 

Luis Ortiz (right forearm)

Status: 15-day injured list
Ortiz left his rehab appearance with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 18 with a forearm strain and has been returned from the rehab stint. He will receive a second opinion on the injury, and manager Rob Thomson has not speculated on the possibility of surgery. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 21)

Yunior Marte (right shoulder inflammation)

Status: 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 1
Marte felt discomfort after his scoreless appearance against the Padres on April 28, which worsened during his appearance against the Angels on April 30. He was placed on the injured list on May 3. Marte was at Citizens Bank Park on June 19 and is scheduled for a rehab appearance with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 20. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 19)

Michael Rucker (right hand arterial vasospasm)

Status: 60-day injured list
Rucker threw a bullpen session on May 14 and another on May 17. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 3 and is set to make a rehab appearance for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 21. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 19)

 

J.T. Realmuto (right knee surgery)
Status:** 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 10
Realmuto was placed on the injured list with right knee pain and underwent a successful right knee meniscectomy on June 12. The team expects him to be out for about a month. He is not with the team in Baltimore but is reportedly walking normally and using a stationary bike. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 14)

Dylan Covey (right shoulder strain)

 

Status:** 60-day injured list
Covey is still dealing with a shoulder strain and has been backed off throwing. He also slightly pulled a hamstring while doing conditioning work. After seeing team doctors in Philadelphia, he was expected to head back to Clearwater on May 10. Covey was transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 1. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4)
