Braves Devastated as Key Pitcher Suffers UCL Injury, Placed on 15-Day IL
The Atlanta Braves announced on Monday that they have placed left-handed pitcher Ray Kerr on the 15-day injured list due to a UCL injury in his left elbow. Kerr had been optioned to Gwinnett on June 15, but this option has been voided.
Teams are not allowed to option an injured player, which is why Kerr’s option was voided. The Braves faced a similar situation at the end of last season with Dylan Lee, who had a shoulder injury and underwent offseason surgery.
While the Braves provided limited details about Kerr’s injury, a UCL injury often leads to Tommy John surgery, which may be the case here.
Regardless of the outcome, this is a significant setback for both Kerr and the Braves. Kerr appeared in 10 games, including two starts, recording a 5.64 ERA and a 4.40 FIP with 27 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings.
