Hawthorn has inked a five-year contract extension with breakout utility Blake Hardwick, securing his tenure at the club until the end of 2029.
Known for his versatility and unwavering reliability, Hardwick has been a cornerstone player since his debut nine years ago under Alistair Clarkson, initially as a lockdown defender before thriving under Sam Mitchell’s coaching, notably excelling as a forward.
Consistently among Hawthorn’s top performers, Hardwick has earned top-five finishes in the club’s best & fairest four times, showcasing his impact across various roles on the field. His standout season in 2021 highlighted his prowess, averaging 21 disposals, five marks, and two tackles per game.
With his career coinciding just after Hawthorn’s golden era, Hardwick remains committed to the club’s resurgence under Mitchell’s leadership, poised to contribute significantly to its future success.
“We’re delighted to extend Blake’s contract as he enters the prime of his career,” remarked Hawthorn List Manager Mark McKenzie. “His dedication, versatility, and team-first mentality make him a pivotal figure in our evolving squad. We anticipate his continued growth and leadership on and off the field in the years ahead.”
