Director of baseball operations 2023 Makes Triumphant Return to LSU as Head Coach

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU baseball enthusiasts have reason to cheer as Josh Simpson, instrumental in the Tigers’ 2023 National Championship triumph, returns to the fold as assistant coach. Head coach Jay Johnson proudly announced Simpson’s homecoming on Monday, marking a significant addition to the coaching staff.

Simpson brings a wealth of experience, having most recently served as assistant coach at Georgia during the 2024 season. His tenure with the Bulldogs saw remarkable success, culminating in securing the No. 7 National Seed in the NCAA Tournament and clinching the NCAA Athens Regional title.

“I am really excited to bring Josh back to LSU as a member of our coaching staff,” expressed Johnson. “Josh is an elite evaluator, and will help us continue to bring the nation’s top players to Baton Rouge both from the high school ranks and the transfer portal.”

Prior to his stint at Georgia, Simpson’s career has been distinguished by achievements across various coaching roles. He notably served as the director of baseball operations for LSU’s 2023 championship-winning team and previously excelled as an MLB scout for the Texas Rangers.

His coaching journey includes successful tenures at New Mexico Junior College, Central Arizona College, and Lamar Community College, where he fostered a legacy of excellence and player development.

Simpson holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State and a master’s degree from East Central University. His return to LSU promises to elevate the Tigers’ baseball program with his expertise and dedication to player success.
