Padres star sidelined due to stress reaction in his right thigh bone

San Diego Padres standout right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a stress reaction in his right thigh bone, as announced by manager Mike Shildt. Previously thought to be dealing with a quadriceps injury, Tatis underwent imaging that revealed the femur issue. Shildt noted that while Tatis could potentially play through the injury, it requires rest to heal properly.

Tatis recently sustained a hit-by-pitch injury near his left elbow during a game against Milwaukee on Friday, after which he was taken out two innings later and subsequently missed games on Saturday and Sunday.

He leads the Padres with 14 home runs this season, including a notable 446-foot blast last Thursday. Tatis, known for his defensive prowess, earned both the NL Gold Glove and Platinum Glove awards in his debut season in right field last year.

Additionally, Shildt mentioned that Yu Darvish is sidelined with elbow inflammation, causing him to miss his scheduled start against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. As a result, rookie Adam Mazur was called up from Triple-A El Paso to take his place.

The Padres also made roster moves, recalling infielder Eguy Rosario from Triple-A and selecting outfielder Bryce Johnson’s contract. Conversely, they optioned right-hander Jhony Brito and outfielder Jose Azocar to Triple-A.
