Bombers’ Star Lineup Descends on Shepparton for Community Camp

Essendon’s AFLW team is scheduled to conduct its 2024 Community Camp in Shepparton this July.

They will kick off their activities on Monday, July 15, with an open training session and an Auskick clinic for the local community. The day will also feature a Welcome to Country ceremony and smoking ceremony.

On July 16, following their second day of training, the squad plans to visit several local schools. Details regarding specific locations and timings for these visits will be finalized closer to the event.

Dangerfield of Geelong found not guilty of rough conduct

Geelong skipper Patrick Dangerfield has successfully overturned a rough conduct charge and is cleared to participate in the Cats’ crucial match against Essendon.

Dangerfield contested a one-game suspension at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night, following an incident involving a tackle on Carlton’s Sam Walsh. Initially deemed as rough conduct—comprising careless conduct, medium impact, and high contact—Dangerfield argued that his approach was the safest method to tackle Walsh, given the circumstances.

“I knew how I wanted to execute the tackle,” Dangerfield stated during the tribunal hearing. “I understood the regulations… It was the safest way to control his landing.”

Despite assertions from AFL counsel Andrew Woods that Dangerfield’s tackle could have led to injury, the tribunal ultimately ruled in favor of Dangerfield after a 40-minute deliberation. Chair Jeff Gleeson affirmed that the panel found Dangerfield’s actions were not unreasonable and did not constitute rough conduct.

With this decision, Dangerfield is set to play in Geelong’s upcoming clash against Essendon at the MCG on Saturday night. The Cats, currently in seventh place, aim to reverse a recent string of defeats.
