The Oklahoma State Cowboys bolstered their roster with some much-needed size and experience by adding Patrick Suemnick, a transfer from West Virginia, on Wednesday. Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 235 pounds, Suemnick brings significant physical presence to the team. Last season, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.
Suemnick, originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, began his collegiate career at Robert Morris during the 2020-21 season, where he played 16 games and averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in just over 8 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 59% from the field. He then moved to Triton College, a junior college, where he significantly improved his stats, averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 55% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc. Triton finished that season with a 30-6 record, making it to the NJCAA Final Four.
Over the past two seasons, Suemnick played for West Virginia under coach Bob Huggins. During the 2022-23 season, he saw limited action in 21 games, averaging 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in just over 5 minutes per game. This past season, he started in six of West Virginia’s 32 games, shooting 54% from the field and recording a career-high 20 points in a victory over Kansas in January, one of his four double-digit scoring games for the season.

Suemnick initially committed to DePaul out of the transfer portal before reopening his recruitment and ultimately choosing Oklahoma State. His addition fills the Cowboys’ 11th scholarship, leaving new coach Steve Lutz with two more spots to fill. Suemnick’s size and experience make him a valuable asset for Oklahoma State, tying for the second tallest and ranking as the second heaviest player on the roster behind Xavier transfer Abou Ousmane.
Coach Lutz has been active in the transfer portal, with Suemnick being the eighth transfer player added this offseason. Suemnick joins other Big 12 transfers Robert Jennings II (Texas Tech) and Marchelus Avery (UCF) as the Cowboys look to rebuild and compete in the upcoming season.
“Let’s work, Oklahoma State!” Suemnick tweeted, signaling his readiness to contribute to the team. His presence is expected to enhance the Cowboys’ depth and performance as they prepare for the 2024 season.
