Red Sox Receive Positive Update on Triston Casas Following MRI; Target Return Date Set
The countdown for Triston Casas’s return to the Boston Red Sox lineup is underway. The slugger is aiming to be back in action by July 2, as he continues to recover from a rib cartilage tear that has sidelined him since April 20.
Casas, who has been candid about his recovery process, was officially eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on June 21. However, setbacks in his swinging progression have delayed his return. The first baseman has recently started taking slight swings off a tee, though significant progress has yet to be reported.
On June 24, Casas underwent an MRI to assess his injury’s status. Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated the following evening that there is a “good chance” Casas could begin swinging this week. Despite the optimism, Cora’s lack of detailed clarity has raised some questions. The team is expected to provide more information on June 26.

With Casas targeting a return date just over a week away, there are still hurdles to clear. He hasn’t swung a bat in over two months and will require some rehab outings before being reactivated to the major league roster. Consequently, a July 2 return might be overly ambitious.
The 24-year-old slugger had a strong finish to his rookie season in 2023. After a slow start, Casas exploded in the second half of the year, boasting the fourth-highest OPS in the majors post-All-Star break. He concluded the season with a slash line of .263/.367/.490, hitting 24 homers.
The timing of Casas’s potential return couldn’t be better for Boston. The Red Sox have won 11 of their last 15 games, and his offensive prowess would provide a significant boost to maintain this momentum. As the team awaits more definitive updates, fans remain hopeful for Casas’s swift and successful return to the lineup.
