Wayne Bennett Secures Manly’s Jamie Humphreys for South Sydney in 2025

Jamie Humphreys

Wayne Bennett has made his first significant move at South Sydney, securing the promising Manly utility Jamie Humphreys for the 2025 season. The grandson of former league boss Kevin Humphreys, Jamie is a versatile player, capable of excelling at both halfback and hooker.

At 22, Humphreys could be in line for the number nine jersey for the Rabbitohs next season. He transitioned from halfback to hooker this year, delivering standout performances in the lower grades. His impressive play earned him Manly’s 2023 Jersey Flegg Players’ Player award, marking him as a future first-grader.

Humphreys’ path to the top at Manly was blocked by veteran halves Daly Cherry-Evans and Luke Brooks, as well as hooker Lachlan Croker. Seeing a clearer path under Bennett, who is known for nurturing young talent, Humphreys opted for the move to South Sydney.

The timing is opportune, as the Dragons recently signed Souths hooker Damien Cook. Humphreys will compete with another rising star, Peter Mamouzelos, for the hooking spot at the Rabbitohs.

Benji Marshall’s Nephew Signs Long-Term Deal with Titans

Taane Marshall-Wallace, the nephew of rugby league legend Benji Marshall, has signed a four-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans. At just 15, the powerfully built outside back has already made a significant impression.

Marshall-Wallace, hailing from Waimana in the Bay of Plenty, recently transitioned from Kiwi rugby union to league. Despite his short time in the sport, he’s excelled against older competitors, showcasing his skills and potential. “He’s a big kid with good skills – we are very excited about him,” a Titans source told Wide World of Sports.

Nofoaluma’s Fairytale Return to Tigers Denied

David Nofoaluma, a former Tigers favorite, was a guest in the chairman’s lounge at the club last week. However, a fairytale comeback isn’t on the cards. The only Tiger to score 100 tries, Nofoaluma is seeking a return to the NRL next season after a stint in England.

He’s just signed to finish the season with Glebe Dirty Reds, a Ron Massey Cup team affiliated with the Sydney Roosters. At 30, Nofoaluma remains a potent force when fit and is likely to attract interest from rival NRL clubs.
