Nuggets Player Declines $15.4 Million Option, Eyes Free Agency
As free agency begins, many players nearing the end of their contracts are exploring offers from other teams.
Following the NBA Draft’s first round, sources revealed that Denver Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will decline his player option and enter unrestricted free agency.
Caldwell-Pope, who joined the Nuggets in 2022 on a two-year, $30.1 million contract with full guarantees, averaging $15.1 million annually, has decided to forego his $15.4 million player option to explore his options in free agency.
If Caldwell-Pope departs from the Nuggets, it could impact their on-court rotations, losing a starting role player known for his sharpshooting from beyond the arc and solid defensive skills.
During the Nuggets’ 2023 NBA Finals campaign, Caldwell-Pope played a significant role, averaging 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 38% from three-point range in the postseason. He also maintained an 82.9% free throw shooting percentage and a 45.7% field goal percentage.
The former University of Georgia standout was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 8th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, spending four years with Detroit, five with the Lakers, one with the Washington Wizards, and the past two with the Denver Nuggets.
