Florida’s Tyrese Samuel Signs Exhibit-10 Deal with Phoenix Suns

Tyrese Samuel #4 of the Florida Gators

Tyrese Samuel, a standout forward from Florida, has signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Phoenix Suns, as reported by Jon Chepkevich, Director of Scouting for Draft Express. An Exhibit-10 deal is a one-year, minimum salary contract that can be converted into a Two-Way deal before the start of the regular season.

Samuel, who started all 36 games during his graduate season at Florida, impressed with his performance, tallying 500 points while averaging career-bests of 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. His efforts earned him AP second-team All-SEC honors. Known for his prowess on the offensive glass, Samuel recorded the third-highest single-season total in UF history with 102 offensive rebounds, joining Micah Handlogten to become part of Florida’s first duo to hit the century mark in offensive boards. According to KenPom, Samuel ranked 156th in college basketball for offensive rebounding opportunities, hauling in 11% of his chances.

Before his time at Florida, Samuel played four seasons at Seton Hall, concluding his five-year college career with impressive stats: 1,315 points, 779 rebounds, a .529 field goal percentage, 123 assists, 108 steals, and 107 blocked shots. His coach at Florida, Todd Golden, praised Samuel’s game: “He’s fantastic. He’s one that, the game just seems like it’s coming so easy to him. He’s just a veteran, really understands where to get his baskets.”

Standing at 6’10” and weighing 240 pounds, Samuel is noted for his physical play around the rim and his ability to draw contact, ranking 151st in free throw rate last season. Despite his strong presence inside, Samuel’s offensive skillset, particularly his shooting, needs development. He attempted 25 three-pointers at Florida, making only four, resulting in a .160 three-point percentage. His free throw shooting also leaves room for improvement, with a conversion rate of just 56.2% in the 2023-24 season.

Samuel’s signing marks a potential new chapter in his career as he looks to secure a spot on an NBA roster. His development under the Suns’ system will be crucial as he transitions from college standout to professional player.
