Michigan Recruiting Insider: Projecting a Major Target for the Wolverines
Each week, TMI’s Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich collaborate on a podcast titled ‘The Michigan Recruiting Insider.’ This show delves deeply into Michigan football and basketball recruiting, providing unparalleled insights and information on the Wolverines’ targets and recruitment strategies. Sam, Steve, and Brice address all the hot topics and pressing questions concerning Michigan football recruiting.
In this week’s edition of The Michigan Recruiting Insider, Sam, Steve, and Brice recap the monumental Victor’s recruiting weekend and spotlight the recent commitments from Jasper Parker, Jacob Washington, Kaden Strayhorn, Chase Taylor, and the significant pledge from 2026 quarterback prospect Brady Hart. The discussion then shifts to Crystal Balls for top targets Hardy Watts, Andrew Olesh, Philip Wright, and, as of this episode, top 50 wide receiver target Andrew Marsh.
In the transcript excerpt, the team discusses the latest developments in Marsh’s recruitment, and Sam explains why he projected Marsh to join the Wolverines.
Sam Webb: “(Marsh) is 6-1, about 175-180 pounds, has deep speed, tremendous hands, and is a really good route runner. Andrew Marsh checks all the boxes. I think Michigan leads for Andrew Marsh at this point.”
Brice Marich: “Yeah, and I know other networks have even predicted Michigan to land him. None of us have quite done that yet, but, Sam, you might be on the verge. That’s what I’m hearing.”
Sam Webb: “Yes, that’s right.”
Brice Marich: “And again, the toughest job on this staff is undoubtedly Ron Bellamy’s because of the perception that they don’t throw the football. It’s ironic because players like Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson are getting drafted. They are producing, so he can sell that. And with Kirk Campbell’s big vision and scheme, as Brady Hart and Carter Smith have discussed, they’re going to try to air it out more. While the identity is still running the football, they’re not afraid to use play-action and throw it. I think that’s very appealing for Andrew Marsh. When I think about an offense like this, you stack the box to stop the run, which gives a wideout one-on-one coverage. Marsh can capitalize on that all day, making it touchdown city. So, he’s a perfect fit. And when I saw Steve’s post that Marsh was supposed to visit Oklahoma but went to Michigan instead, I thought Michigan’s in the driver’s seat.”
Steve Lorenz: “Some people thought Oklahoma was the leader for a while, so him canceling that visit to come back to Michigan was significant. He’s visited Michigan multiple times, so that was huge.”
Sam Webb: “He visited Michigan without people even knowing. When he popped up at Michigan’s camp earlier this month, nobody knew. He came up just to work out with Ron Bellamy. After speaking with his mom, I’m confident enough to put in a Crystal Ball. My only hesitation was the time between his official visit and decision. But his mom mentioned he might move up his decision timeline. He might visit other schools, like Washington, but he’s also planning another trip back to Michigan. Securing a blue-chip receiver like Marsh could help with other recruits.”
“After the unofficial visit, his dad felt unsure about how much they would throw the football. After the official visit, he was impressed with the offensive plans. With Marsh, it seems to be making a difference. His mom’s interview really emphasized Michigan, making it clear I should put in a Crystal Ball. The initial reluctance was his November decision timeline, but with a potential earlier decision and another trip to Michigan, landing a top receiver could have a significant impact on other recruits.”
