Orioles co-owner Michael Arougheti is poised to play a “significant role” in shaping the franchise’s future decisions “for decades to come,” according to controlling owner David Rubenstein. Rubenstein has identified Arougheti as the “logical person” to potentially succeed him, although no formal agreement has been reached yet, and any transfer of control would require MLB approval when proposed. Kyle Goon of the BALTIMORE BANNER reports that currently, at 51 years old, Arougheti appears to be thoroughly enjoying his ownership role with the team. Before Rubenstein’s vision to acquire the Orioles took shape, Arougheti had been exploring opportunities to invest in a baseball team. When Rubenstein began pursuing the Orioles, Arougheti’s interest piqued, and discussions intensified last fall when Rubenstein approached Arougheti about acquiring a larger stake. While MLB regulations prevent owners from prearranging succession plans for franchises, Rubenstein views Arougheti, a savvy businessman significantly younger than himself, as a natural future leader due to his deep passion for baseball. Rubenstein acknowledged that as he ages, there may come a time when his leadership effectiveness diminishes.
