Breaking News: Heartbreak for Padres: Key Player Placed on 15-Day Injured List…

The San Diego Padres have placed left-handed reliever Tom Cosgrove on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation. To fill his spot, the team has promoted left-hander Austin Davis from Triple-A El Paso and transferred right-hander Joe Musgrove to the 60-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation.

Cosgrove, 28, struggled in his last appearance, allowing four runs on two hits, a walk, and hitting a batter in just one-third of an inning against the Washington Nationals. This IL move is retroactive to Thursday.

This season, Cosgrove has a 0-1 record with an 11.66 ERA, 15 strikeouts, six walks, and 23 hits allowed in 14 2/3 innings over 18 games. Last year, he posted a 1.75 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings.

Davis, 31, has not pitched in the majors since 2022 with the Minnesota Twins. He has a 4-5 record and a 5.61 ERA over 136 games in his career.

Davis signed a minor league deal with the Padres after a successful winter league stint in the Dominican Republic, where he had a 3.10 ERA and eight saves in 29 games for El Paso. “I’m excited to be back in the big leagues,” Davis said, adding that his goal is to get outs and keep the rest of the bullpen fresh.
