‘Arrogant’ Quinn Ewers’ Spotlight at Manning Camp Puts Texas Under Pressure

The Texas Longhorns are set to join the SEC next football season, which could increase the level of competition compared to their current Big XII environment.

Despite the new conference featuring powerhouse teams like Alabama and Georgia, quarterback Quinn Ewers remains confident in his team’s potential. At the Manning Passing Academy over the weekend, Ewers showcased the skills that have him highly rated on 2025 NFL Draft boards.

Coming off a College Football Playoff appearance where they lost 37-31 to Washington, Ewers was a key factor in Texas’s success. He threw for a career-high 3,479 yards, with 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Although he considered entering the NFL Draft, he decided to stay for another season in Austin.

During the Manning Passing Academy, where he was a standout alongside teammate Arch Manning, Ewers was asked about the upcoming SEC transition. His comments have stirred up considerable reaction.

The SEC, known for its elite competition, will present a significant challenge for Texas. Nevertheless, Ewers is confident that the Longhorns will be the team to watch. “It’s definitely a different level, and I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC,” he said. “We’re excited to join a conference like that, but we understand that we’re everyone’s biggest game.”

The response on social media was swift. Critics pointed out that SEC teams like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and Florida have dominated college football with numerous national titles since Texas last won in 2005, totaling 13 championships over two decades.

Reactions included:
“We tried to warn y’all about the arrogance but no,” from a Texas A&M supporter.
“The SEC won’t see it that way. The arrogance is pathetic,” from another.
Even Oklahoma fans chimed in, with one saying, “Someone tell him he’s not in the BIG 12 anymore. Even then, OU was everyone’s biggest game.”

Texas is expected to compete well in the SEC next year, but many believe they need to improve to match the top teams like Alabama and Georgia. Ewers’s comments have certainly given future opponents some extra motivation.
