Braves Updates: Key Player Suffers Back Injury, Comeback in Jeopardy
Braves Triumph in Thrilling Pitchers’ Duel
The Braves secured a win in extra innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. The game featured an exciting pitching matchup between Max Fried and Paul Skenes, despite neither starter having their best performance. Both Fried and Skenes pitched six innings, allowing six hits and one earned run each.
In the 10th inning, Adam Duvall delivered a crucial hit against a right-handed pitcher, securing a walk-off victory for the Braves.
Meanwhile, the Phillies narrowly lost to the Marlins in their first game without two key sluggers, reducing their division lead to seven games. Atlanta will aim for a sweep against Pittsburgh early this afternoon with rookie pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach on the mound.

Ian Anderson Set for Third Rehab Start
Ian Anderson, the former third overall pick, is on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery performed in April 2023. In his initial outings since returning, Anderson has pitched five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven. He is scheduled to make his third start this afternoon for the High-A Green Jackets. Braves beat writer David O’Brien speculated that Anderson might return to Atlanta sometime after the All-Star break.
Laureano Dealing with Back Injury
Veteran outfielder Ramon Laureano has been sidelined since Wednesday’s game against St. Louis due to a sore back. Braves manager Brian Snitker announced that Laureano is expected to remain out until Tuesday.
Since joining the Braves, Laureano has a .257 batting average with one home run in 35 at-bats. Despite his average, Laureano has had many hard-hit outs and, if he continues with quality at-bats, is likely to see significant playing time while Michael Harris II is on the injured list.
