Anfield insiders reveal their thoughts on the Anthony Gordon proposal, as Liverpool clarifies their transfer stance unequivocally.
Despite having many options on the left flank, it’s intriguing that Liverpool hasn’t completely dismissed discussions about Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool FC insiders have made their stance clear on certain aspects of a potential deal. Paul Gorst reported that Anfield officials have no intention of including Jarell Quansah in any transfer involving the Newcastle United winger.
Gorst noted, “The chance of signing Gordon this weekend might have been an opportunistic deal for Liverpool outside of their wider plans for the coming window and beyond under Arne Slot. However, this subplot could continue, even though the opportunity to sign the England winger at a discounted, PSR-impacted cost has now passed.”
A key sticking point was Newcastle’s demand to include Jarell Quansah in any deal. Liverpool firmly rejected this, refusing to consider any offer that would send their defender to the North East.
TEAMtalk reported that Liverpool were prepared to offer £50m plus Caoimhin Kelleher to finalize the move, though this has not been confirmed by other sources. It’s also suggested that a higher upfront bid might be necessary to seriously tempt Newcastle.
