Breaking News: Celtics Star Secures $314M, 5-Year Contract
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has reached an agreement on a five-year, $314 million contract extension, complete with a player option and trade kicker, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday.
Tatum, 26, played a pivotal role in leading Boston to its 18th NBA championship, securing a five-game victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. He averaged 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists during the series, helping the Celtics surpass the Los Angeles Lakers for the most NBA titles in history.
The 6-foot-9 forward, drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2017, has become one of the league’s premier two-way players on the wing. He forms a formidable partnership with Jaylen Brown, who signed a record extension with Boston last year, making them one of the top wing duos in the NBA.
Earlier on Monday, the Celtics also extended guard Derrick White’s contract, ensuring that all five members of their starting lineup are now signed through at least the 2025-26 season.
Tatum, a five-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA selection (including First Team All-NBA honors for the past three seasons), also won a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. He is expected to join Team USA for the Paris Olympics this summer as they pursue their fifth consecutive gold medal.
