BREAKING NEWS: New York Giant to Sign Dual Threat as Potential Bridge QB for 2025″

Based on his contract situation, a lot would need to go right for Daniel Jones to remain the starting quarterback for the New York Giants next year.

It’s widely known that the Giants could save $30.5 million by designating Jones as a post-June 1 release next offseason. Adding to the uncertainty is his injury guarantee, which some speculate could lead to Jones being benched before the end of the season.

This sets up a pivotal moment for Jones, putting him in a make-or-break scenario as the current QB1 for the Giants. Analysts covering the team are already contemplating potential replacements as early as June 2024. According to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, who recently evaluated quarterback options for 2025, one intriguing possibility is former Chicago Bears starter Justin Fields. Fields, currently backing up Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh after being traded from the Bears, is seen as a viable prove-it/bridge option should the Giants decide to move on from Jones.

“Fields is a wild-card entry,” wrote Duggan. “He showed promise with the Bears but was eventually supplanted by USC’s Caleb Williams in this year’s draft.”

Duggan noted that Fields shares similarities with Jones as a dual-threat quarterback, potentially making him a good fit in the Giants’ offensive system under head coach Brian Daboll, known for his success with quarterbacks like Josh Allen.

While Fields and Jones have similar playing styles, Fields offers a slightly higher upside, having showcased dynamic skills both through the air and on the ground during his career. His potential availability in 2025 could present the Giants with a cost-effective option to explore as they navigate their quarterback situation moving forward.
