Sydney Roosters Secure Star with $1.6 Million Two-Year Deal

Angus Crichton, the backrower for the Roosters, has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a two-year contract extension with the club.

There had been rumors linking Crichton with other NRL teams or even a switch to rugby, but he has committed to staying with the Tricolours until at least the end of 2026.

This decision comes amid a resurgence in Crichton’s career, where he has reclaimed his status as one of the top edge forwards in the league over recent months.

The Roosters, having experienced the drama of David Fifita’s contract reversal earlier this year, will be relieved to secure Crichton’s future. His stellar form has coincided with uncertainty surrounding Fifita’s commitment, reinforcing Crichton’s value as a key player in the Roosters’ lineup.

“I’m incredibly proud to continue my journey with the Sydney Roosters,” Crichton remarked. “This team and the entire club feel like family to me, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

Crichton’s journey has included personal challenges, including a hiatus for mental health reasons, but he has returned stronger, displaying exceptional form with seven tries and solid defensive contributions this season.

Coach Trent Robinson expressed his appreciation for Crichton, highlighting his integral role both on and off the field: “Gus has openly spoken about what being part of this club means to him, and I value him greatly as a player and as a person.”

According to reports, Crichton’s new contract is valued at approximately $1.6 million over two years. The Roosters are now focusing on securing young halfback Sam Walker’s future before other clubs can formally approach him.

However, Crichton’s contract extension may signal the end of Sitili Tupouniua’s tenure with the Roosters, as he explores potential opportunities elsewhere amid the club’s reshaping.

While Crichton’s commitment to rugby remains a topic of interest, with the 2027 Rugby World Cup potentially on the horizon, for now, he is fully dedicated to excelling in rugby league with the Roosters.
