White Sox Promote Promising Pitching Prospect to Triple-A Following Successful Home Series
The Chicago White Sox will embark on a six-game road trip starting Tuesday, beginning with a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. This comes after a successful home series where the White Sox took two out of three games against the Colorado Rockies. In a significant move, the team announced that pitching prospect Ky Bush will be promoted to Triple-A.
Bush has enjoyed a standout season in Birmingham and will now take his talents to the highest level of minor league baseball. The White Sox acquired Bush from the Los Angeles Angels at the 2023 trade deadline, in a deal that also brought Edgar Quero to Chicago, sending Lucas Giolito and Ronaldo Lopez to the West Coast.
Onward and Upward
After a challenging 2023 campaign in Double-A, the left-handed Bush has rebounded impressively in 2024. Over 14 starts with Birmingham, he has posted a 2.12 ERA across 80 1/3 innings. Bush has allowed two runs or fewer in 11 of his starts and has pitched at least six innings in seven outings. Notably, he has been particularly effective against right-handed batters, who are slashing just .158/.244/.232 in 197 plate appearances.
Bush’s performance this season indicates he may reach the big leagues as soon as September. His promotion to Triple-A is a key step in his development and highlights his potential to contribute to the White Sox’s future success.
What’s On Tap Next?
As the White Sox look towards the future, they have multiple openings in their rotation and bullpen, providing opportunities for promising prospects. Bush will be part of a youth movement of minor-league pitchers making their way to the majors through the end of the season. If he continues on his current trajectory, he will soon join fellow Birmingham farmhands Drew Thorpe and Jonathan Cannon in Chicago.
This road trip and Bush’s promotion mark an exciting time for the White Sox, as they blend veteran talent with emerging prospects to build a competitive team for the future.
