Breaking News: Braves Drop Player to Make Room for Eddie Rosario
Francys Romero reports that the Braves are designating outfielder J.P. Martinez for assignment.
While the Braves haven’t officially announced the transaction, it’s likely that the move is intended to clear space for Eddie Rosario, who recently signed a minor-league deal and played over the weekend for the Gwinnett Stripers, collecting three hits, including a triple and a home run.
Eddie Rosario’s journey since helping the Braves win the World Series in 2021 has been challenging. His performance earned him a two-year contract to return to Atlanta, but vision issues in 2022 severely impacted his play, causing him to miss much of the season. Although he was somewhat effective in 2023, it wasn’t enough for the Braves to retain him, leading to a deal with the Nationals.

In Washington, Rosario struggled, batting only .183 with seven homers in 67 games before being designated for assignment and released. The Braves, in need of outfield assistance, seized the opportunity to bring him back.
Rosario may not be a daily fixture or solve all of Atlanta’s issues, but as a streaky hitter with explosive potential, he could provide a boost. He might help the Braves stay competitive until the trade deadline, when they could pursue more impactful additions for the stretch run.
