Houston Astros Eyeing Blockbuster Trade for Alien First Baseman Guerrero Jr.

In recent weeks, the Houston Astros have frequently appeared in trade rumors as they bounce back this season and re-enter contention. They are now seen as a team potentially looking to make a significant trade.

If the Astros decide to make a big move, first base is a likely target. Jose Abreu held the position for much of the year, but the team parted ways with him due to significant struggles, leaving a need for a long-term solution.

One suggested target is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the star first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays. Acquiring Guerrero would bolster the Astros’ chances this season and provide a cornerstone player for the future.

CBS Sports recently mentioned Guerrero as a potential trade candidate for the Astros before the upcoming trade deadline. However, they also noted that the Blue Jays might keep him for the remainder of the year.

“Time moves fast. It feels like just yesterday Guerrero was preparing to make his big-league debut; now, he’s a season-plus away from free agency. A lot has changed during the interim period, including his position, but some things have remained the same. For instance, Guerrero remains a middle-of-the-order presence whose ability to impact the baseball is undeniable. There’s no real need to address the rest of his game other than to note that teams tend to dock right-right first basemen. Should that prove to be the case here, the Blue Jays may end up holding him until at least the winter.”

The Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals were also mentioned as potential suitors for Guerrero.

Guerrero has been impressive in the 2024 season, with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs in 89 games, along with a .295/.370/.460 slash line. These stats highlight why Houston would be interested in him. At 25 years old, Guerrero would significantly boost the Astros’ competitiveness this season and is under contract for at least one more season after 2024.

If Toronto is open to trading their superstar first baseman, Houston should make a strong effort to acquire him. He would be an ideal fit, addressing one of the Astros’ most pressing needs.
