Raducanu’s Calm Response to Murray’s ‘Astonishing’ Comment Highlights Tough…

As anticipated, Raducanu’s press conference largely focused on the topic of Murray’s description of her withdrawal as ‘astonishing.’ Raducanu later clarified that Murray’s remark was meant sarcastically, explaining that she had withdrawn due to stiffness in her wrist.

Those hoping for a major revelation were disappointed, as Raducanu admitted she hadn’t seen the reaction and appeared ready for the question. When asked if she was surprised by Judy Murray’s reaction on Twitter and whether she would consider speaking to her privately, Raducanu’s response was non-revealing.

Raducanu admitted she hadn’t seen Judy Murray’s reaction and seemed prepared for the question. When a reporter clarified that Murray had described her withdrawal as sarcastic, Raducanu simply responded, “I’m sure she didn’t mean it.”

Social media users praised Raducanu for her composed response, noting that she handled the situation with grace and did not get drawn into the reporters’ probing.

During the press conference, Raducanu also addressed the reasons for her withdrawal from the mixed doubles event. “I don’t think it was a mistake because I was feeling fine, but then I woke up yesterday morning with stiffness. I have to prioritize my singles career and my body,” she explained.

Raducanu stood by her decision, acknowledging the difficulty of choosing to withdraw but emphasizing the importance of taking care of her health. “It was a tough decision because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I didn’t want to take his (Murray’s) last match away from him, but in the end, many players in a similar situation would have made the same choice, prioritizing their well-being.”

Addressing the backlash, Raducanu acknowledged the opinions surrounding her decision but remained firm in her stance. “With every decision, people are entitled to their opinions. There was some negativity around the decision, but I don’t think I would have done it any differently. In this sport, you have to make decisions that prioritize yourself, especially with my injury history. I had to put myself first.”
