John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox, acknowledged the Boston Celtics’ ownership group’s plan to sell the franchise but declined to offer specific comments on the matter in a statement to The Athletic‘s Jen McCaffrey.
“We commend Wyc Grousbeck, his family, and their partners for their exceptional stewardship of the Boston Celtics, an organization deeply cherished by the City of Boston and countless fans across New England and beyond,” Henry prefaced. “Under their leadership, the Celtics have been integral to the city’s remarkable era of sports success, marked not only by championships on the court but also by their outstanding community involvement.
“We have great admiration and respect for the Celtics organization, its players, and its passionate fan base, but we will refrain from commenting on the upcoming bidding process.”
