Auburn Tigers Secure Former Maryland Linebacker Through Transfer Portal.

Former Maryland linebacker Fa’Najae Gotay has joined the Auburn Tigers roster as their latest transfer addition. Gotay, a super senior, entered the transfer portal in June and has one year of eligibility left, according to the team’s announcement.

Gotay began his college career as a redshirt in 2018 and played in nine games as a sophomore, recording 26 tackles for the Terrapins. He participated in four of Maryland’s five games during the 2020 COVID season and took a medical redshirt in 2021 before appearing in 24 games over the past two seasons. During that time, he started six games, totaling 37 tackles and one interception in 2022, and 45 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and another interception in 2023.

His last game with Maryland was the Music City Bowl against Auburn, where he led the team with six total tackles.

Originally a 3-star recruit according to 247 Sports, Gotay had offers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, and Louisville, among others.

Gotay joins fellow transfer linebacker Dorian Mousi Jr. from Duke as new additions to Auburn’s linebacker group, which also includes returners Eugene Asante and Austin Keys, and Robert Woodward, who aims to have a larger role in his third season. Additionally, Auburn signed freshmen DeMarcus Riddick and G.J. Barber as part of their top-10 recruiting class, who will benefit from the experience of Gotay and Mousi as they adjust to college life.
