“Guardians Send Gabriel Arias Packing, Welcome Will Brennan Back to the Field”
Will Brennan Activated From Injured List
The Guardians placed Will Brennan on the 10-day injured list on July 27 due to rib cage inflammation. Stephen Vogt expressed early optimism that the injury wouldn’t be a long-term issue, and now Brennan has been activated and is set to start in Thursday’s lineup.
Brennan participated in just one rehab assignment game, where he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Despite this, it’s important not to overanalyze the stats; he was able to swing at full strength without any rib cage problems.
Known as “Chill Will,” Brennan has posted a .256/.314/.415 slash line with a .729 OPS in 68 games this season. His reliable contact hitting will be a valuable asset in Cleveland’s lineup.
Gabriel Arias Optioned to Triple-A
On Thursday, the Guardians decided to option Gabriel Arias to Triple-A.
The former top prospect has struggled to find consistency at the plate despite numerous opportunities over the past two seasons. His defensive versatility was a strong point and likely kept him on the major league roster for as long as it did.
However, with Angel Martinez emerging and Brennan returning from the IL, the Guardians made the decision to send Arias down. Arias was hitting .222/.255/.353 with a .608 OPS before being optioned.
