Breaking News: Red Sox Move Pitcher to IL, Call Up Reliever Amid Injury Concerns

The Boston Red Sox have placed right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten on the 15-Day Injured List, retroactive to July 9, due to right elbow inflammation. To fill his spot on the roster, the team has recalled left-handed pitcher Cam Booser from Triple-A Worcester.

Slaten, 26, has been a notable player this season, marking his Major League debut with 31 appearances. He has posted a solid 5-2 record with 10 holds and a 3.38 ERA, having allowed 16 earned runs over 42.2 innings pitched.

Slaten’s performance has been a bright spot for the Red Sox, reflecting his potential as a reliable relief option. He was initially drafted by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Following his selection by the New York Mets in the Rule 5 Draft, Slaten was acquired by Boston on December 6, 2023, as part of the team’s effort to bolster their bullpen.

In response to Slaten’s injury, the Red Sox have called up Cam Booser, 32, from Triple-A Worcester. Booser has demonstrated his own effectiveness this season with a 3.00 ERA across 27 games, having allowed just 10 earned runs in 30 innings of work. His performance has been particularly impressive in recent outings; he has not given up a run in his last nine appearances, showcasing his ability to contribute effectively in high-leverage situations.

In addition to his Major League contributions, Booser has pitched in six games with Worcester this season, where he allowed seven runs in 9.0 innings, accumulating 18 strikeouts against just one walk. Booser was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent on February 6, 2023. His recent recall reflects the team’s confidence in his ability to step up and provide valuable innings in the wake of Slaten’s absence.

The move highlights the Red Sox’s ongoing adjustments to their pitching staff as they navigate the demands of the season and address injuries within their roster.
