Ron Harper Jr. Joins Boston Celtics for Summer League and Training Camp

Ron Harper Jr. #8 of the Toronto Raptors

Ron Harper Jr., fresh off a season where he appeared in one game for the Toronto Raptors, is now showcasing his talents with the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League. The former Rutgers star has also secured a training camp deal with the Celtics, as reported by Keith Smith of Spotrac. “The Boston Celtics have signed Ron Harper Jr. to a non-guaranteed training camp contract, a league source told @spotrac,” Smith noted.

Harper Jr. enjoyed an impressive four-year college career with the Scarlet Knights. In his senior season, he averaged 15.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 44.2% from the field and 39.8% from three-point range over 32 games.

The 24-year-old has played 10 NBA games for the Raptors and has also spent significant time in the G League. Last year, Harper Jr. averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, shooting 45.5% from the field in six Showcase Cup games.

Training camp deals are common around this time of year, and Harper Jr. could potentially spend time with the Maine Celtics during the 2024-25 season.

The Celtics are coming off a stellar year, having secured the first seed in the Eastern Conference with the league’s best record (64-18). They went on to defeat Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, clinching their first title since the 2008 season.
