Breaking News;: Phillies Catcher Back in Action After Meniscus Injury Recovery
The Philadelphia Phillies have reinstated star catcher J.T. Realmuto from the 10-day injured list. Realmuto, a three-time All-Star, had been out since mid-June due to surgery on his right meniscus. This season, he is hitting .261 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs in 51 games. Earlier this year, he enjoyed a career-high 17-game hitting streak.
At 33, Realmuto holds a career batting average of .272, with 161 home runs and 598 RBIs across 1,191 games played for the Miami Marlins (2014-18) and the Phillies.
Additionally, the Phillies have recalled right-hander Yunior Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Marte, 29, has a 3.31 ERA in 15 relief appearances with Philadelphia this season. Over his career, he is 2-2 with two saves and a 4.95 ERA in 94 relief appearances with the Phillies.
In corresponding moves, the Phillies optioned catcher Rafael Marchan and right-hander Michael Mercado to Triple-A. Marchan, 25, hit .294 with three home runs and six RBIs in 17 games with the Phillies this season. Mercado, also 25, has a 1-2 record and a 9.26 ERA in four appearances, including two starts, with Philadelphia this season.
