The St. Louis Blues have officially parted ways with left wing Sammy Blais, marking the end of a significant chapter in the franchise’s recent history. Blais, who has been a valuable asset to the team, was traded to the New York Rangers in a move that surprised many fans and analysts alike.

Sammy Blais, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward, was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Over the years, he developed into a versatile and reliable player, known for his physicality, tenacity, and ability to contribute offensively when needed. Blais made his NHL debut during the 2017-2018 season and quickly became a fan favorite due to his gritty style of play and relentless work ethic.

Blais was an integral part of the Blues’ 2019 Stanley Cup-winning team, providing depth and energy on the ice. His performance during the playoffs was particularly noteworthy, as he played a crucial role in some of the team’s most critical games. Blais’s contributions helped the Blues secure their first-ever Stanley Cup, a moment that will forever be etched in the memories of Blues fans.

Despite his successes, Blais’s time with the Blues was also marked by injuries that occasionally sidelined him. Nevertheless, he consistently bounced back, demonstrating resilience and determination. Over his tenure with the Blues, Blais played in 119 regular-season games, scoring 18 goals and adding 15 assists for a total of 33 points. He also appeared in 27 playoff games, contributing three goals and five points.

The trade to the New York Rangers involves Blais and a 2022 second-round draft pick in exchange for forward Pavel Buchnevich. Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong expressed gratitude for Blais’s contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors. “Sammy has been a great player and person for our organization,” Armstrong said. “We appreciate everything he has done for the Blues and wish him the best in New York.”

Blais’s departure opens a new chapter for both him and the Blues. The addition of Buchnevich aims to bolster the Blues’ offensive capabilities. Buchnevich, a skilled winger, has shown promise with the Rangers and is expected to make an immediate impact in St. Louis.

For Blais, the move to New York represents a fresh start and an opportunity to further his career in a new environment. Rangers General Manager Chris Drury expressed excitement about acquiring Blais, highlighting his versatility and the physical edge he brings to the team. “Sammy is a player who can make a difference in various aspects of the game,” Drury said. “We’re thrilled to have him join our organization.”

As Sammy Blais transitions to the Rangers, Blues fans will undoubtedly remember his contributions and the role he played in the team’s historic Stanley Cup victory. His departure marks the end of an era, but also the beginning of new opportunities for both Blais and the St. Louis Blues.
