The New York Yankees are reportedly considering a trade for Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India as the MLB trade deadline approaches. ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reports that the Yankees have shown interest in the 27-year-old player. However, the Reds are still undecided on whether to trade India, as they are currently in the midst of the National League wild-card race.

Acquiring India would be a significant move for the Yankees, as he would be a great fit for their clubhouse and would bring strong offensive capabilities to the team. Despite Gleyber Torres’s recent improvement, with a .300 batting average and .801 OPS over the last 17 games, the Yankees are still looking to strengthen their roster, and India could be the perfect addition.

India is having a standout season, with a .275 batting average and a .789 OPS. He also demonstrates excellent plate discipline, as evidenced by his 12.7% walk rate (94th percentile), 17.4% chase rate (99th percentile), and 18.8% whiff rate (82nd percentile). His presence would not only enhance the Yankees’ offensive lineup but also improve their defense, particularly at second base. The addition of India would create a strong defensive combination up the middle, further solidifying the Yankees’ infield.

However, the possibility of the Reds trading India remains uncertain. If the team views itself as a potential playoff contender, they may choose to retain India instead of trading him. This decision would depend on how the Reds evaluate their chances of making the postseason and whether they see India as a key player in their success. Regardless, if the Yankees manage to acquire him, India would be a valuable asset at the trade deadline, potentially helping the team in their playoff push.
