Breaking News: Atlanta Braves Bid Farewell To Key Second Baseman”
Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies sustained a left wrist injury late in Sunday’s defeat to the St. Louis Cardinals and is projected to miss around eight weeks.
The injury occurred while Albies was attempting to catch a throw during the ninth inning, when Michael Siani stole second base. Siani’s slide into Albies caused his glove hand to bend awkwardly, resulting in immediate pain.
Albies was seen on the field clutching his left wrist before being replaced by Zack Short at second base for the remainder of the game.
Following their 6-2 loss, the Braves announced that X-rays revealed a fracture in Albies’ left wrist, confirming that he will be out for about eight weeks.
The three-time All-Star has been hitting .255 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs this season, mostly batting second in the lineup.
This injury compounds the Braves’ difficulties, coming on the heels of reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr.’s season-ending knee injury in May.
Earlier the same day, the Braves also placed All-Star pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list with forearm neuritis, retroactive to Thursday.
As they chase their seventh consecutive NL East title, the Braves are currently 8.5 games behind first-place Philadelphia but hold the top wild card spot in the league.
