BREAKING NEWS: Atlanta Braves Pull Off Surprising Heist, Secure Angels’ Outfield Star

The Atlanta Braves are actively seeking outfield reinforcements as the MLB trade deadline approaches, and their search has led them to the west coast.

According to MLB insider Jim Bowden from The Athletic, the Braves, along with the Seattle Mariners, have shown interest in Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward.

“The Angels don’t have to trade Ward, who has hit 15 home runs with 47 RBIs,” writes Bowden, “but they have listened when teams like the Braves and Mariners have reached out.”

This isn’t the first time Atlanta and Los Angeles have done business together, as Angels general manager Perry Minasian has a history of working with Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos, dating back to their time together from 2009-15 and 2017-20.

Since December 2023, the Braves and Angels have completed three trades. The first, on December 9, saw Atlanta acquire infielder David Fletcher and catcher Max Stassi in exchange for first baseman Evan White and left-handed pitcher Tyler Thomas. On May 2, the Braves obtained right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget from the Angels for cash considerations. A week later, Atlanta traded infielder Luis Guillorme to Los Angeles for cash.

Given this history, it makes sense for the Braves to consider Ward to address their outfield needs. The 30-year-old Ward, under team control through 2026, presents an attractive option for both immediate and future plans. He has consistently hit .250 or better over the past four years, although he’s struggled in 2024 with a .227/.309/.401 slash line. In July, he’s hit .154/.230/.218.

Despite his recent struggles, Ward’s established power and defensive flexibility make him a valuable asset, having played all three outfield positions during his time with the Angels. Primarily a corner outfielder, he’s played exclusively in left field this year but has also accumulated nearly 200 appearances in right field and 19 games in center.

Whether the Braves will acquire Ward remains uncertain, but the potential fit for both the team and the player is evident. The trade deadline is fast approaching, with a cutoff at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
