Breaking News: Braves Emerging Star Advances Significantly in Injury Comeback

The Atlanta Braves received positive news regarding Michael Harris II. The team announced that Harris will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, according to Justin Toscano of the AJC. Currently on the injured list, Harris is eligible to return by August 14.

If there are no further setbacks, he should be back in time to contribute during the crucial final stretch of the season. The Braves are currently 60-51 and lead the National League Wild Card race.

Harris has been sidelined since mid-June with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Initially placed on the 10-day IL, he was later moved to the 60-day IL to free up roster space. During his absence, Jarred Kelenic has stepped in as the center fielder and also played some left field.

Harris, who started all 67 games in center field for Atlanta this year, was struggling with a .250/.295/.358 batting line before his injury. His return will add depth to the outfield, which has been bolstered by the acquisitions of Jorge Soler and Eddie Rosario, who have helped recreate the success of the 2021 World Series team.

The Braves have struggled with outfield production since Ronald Acuña Jr. tore his ACL, and Harris’s return will be a significant boost. He had taken over the leadoff role against right-handed pitchers after Acuña’s injury.

The team has also dealt with other injuries this season, but Harris’s return is a positive development as they move closer to full strength. Additionally, Ozzie Albies, who is recovering from a fractured wrist, might return in early September.
