Celtics Re-Sign Familiar Face to Exhibit 10 Contract as Team Prepares for Upcoming Season

Jay Scrubb #29 of the Boston Celtics

After weeks of speculation, the Boston Celtics have officially re-signed wing Jay Scrubb to an Exhibit 10 contract. This move comes after Scrubb’s previous stint with the team, which was cut short by an ACL injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023-24 season.

Scrubb, who initially joined the Celtics last summer on a two-way deal, has expressed his gratitude and motivation following his return. In an interview with Bobby Manning, Scrubb reflected on his experience, saying, “Even though I wasn’t on the deal, I still felt like I was a part of the team, because I was there and the relationships I built and just being there, you still feel like you’re part of the organization.” His determination to return to the court, despite the physical and mental challenges of recovery, underscores his commitment to the team and the game.

The 23-year-old Kentucky native was originally drafted by the Brooklyn Nets in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft but made his NBA debut with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021. Scrubb has played 22 games across two seasons with the Clippers, including a notable performance in May 2021 where he scored 17 points against the Houston Rockets. He also had brief stints with the Orlando Magic during the 2022-23 season.

With Scrubb’s re-signing, the Celtics continue to fine-tune their roster. The team has brought back nearly everyone from their championship squad, but there is still an open roster spot. Currently, only Oshae Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk are not under contract for the upcoming season. Mykhailiuk’s return appears increasingly unlikely, while Brissett remains a potential option for that final spot.

In a recent update on his YouTube channel, BrissyTV, Brissett addressed his free agency status, indicating that while his time with the Celtics may be coming to a close, he is not entirely ruling out a return. “The door is not closed fully. It’s like, it’s like right there, but it’s not closed fully,” Brissett said, expressing his appreciation for his time with Boston and his openness to future opportunities.

As the offseason progresses, the Celtics’ decision regarding the remaining roster spot will be closely watched. For now, Jay Scrubb’s return represents a positive development for the team as they continue to prepare for the upcoming season.
