Breaking News: Yankees Provide Positive Update on Trent Grisham Following Injury Scare
As the New York Yankees push for first place in the American League East, manager Aaron Boone’s squad received a boost of optimism on Saturday. Initial X-rays and a CT scan on Trent Grisham’s injured hand came back negative, revealing no fractures after the outfielder was hit by a pitch during the first game of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers.
The Yankees’ update on X confirmed that Grisham sustained only a left hand contusion from a pitch delivered by Rangers reliever Brock Burke in the fourth inning. Grisham was promptly removed from the game, with Oswaldo Cabrera stepping in at third base and Jazz Chisholm shifting from third to centerfield to cover for Grisham.
Despite the scare, the Yankees went on to secure an 8-0 victory over the Rangers. Aaron Judge led the charge with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, while catcher Austin Wells contributed significantly with two hits and four RBIs.
On the mound, Carlos Rodon delivered a strong performance, holding the Rangers to three hits over 5.2 innings while walking five and striking out six. Reliever Ron Marinaccio added 2.1 scoreless innings, and Tim Hill wrapped up the game with a clean ninth inning.
Grisham, who has showcased excellent defensive skills in centerfield since joining the Yankees this season, has struggled offensively, batting .191/.294/.382 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs. Prior to his time with the Yankees, Grisham had notable success with the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres, including a career-best 62 RBIs with 15 home runs in 2021 and 17 home runs with 53 RBIs in 2022.
With the Yankees’ playoff hopes intensifying, Boone will be relieved to have Grisham’s injury categorized as a contusion rather than a fracture, keeping the team’s defensive and offensive options robust as they aim for a successful end to the season.
