The Boston Red Sox have taken a significant step in their rebuilding process as three of their top prospects, Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel, are set to join Triple-A Worcester. This promotion marks a pivotal moment for the Red Sox’s farm system, which has heavily invested in these emerging talents over the past year.
According to The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier and MassLive’s Christopher Smith, with confirmation from NESN’s Tom Caron, Mayer, Anthony, and Teel are moving up from Double-A Portland, where they have demonstrated substantial growth.
Marcelo Mayer, an infielder, has excelled with a .307 batting average and an .850 OPS this season, while competing for the doubles lead in the Eastern League. Outfielder Roman Anthony has showcased impressive power, blasting 12 home runs since early June. Meanwhile, catcher Kyle Teel has maintained a solid .294 average and an .844 OPS, all while making strides defensively.
The trio is slated to make their Triple-A debuts on Tuesday as Worcester faces off against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Polar Park. This advancement reflects their readiness for the next challenge and the Red Sox’s optimism about their future contributions.
