**SAN FRANCISCO (AP)** — The San Francisco Giants have secured a significant addition to their roster by signing Gold Glove third baseman Matt Chapman to a lucrative six-year contract worth $151 million. The deal, which spans from 2025 to 2030, represents a major commitment from the Giants, ensuring that Chapman will not enter free agency after the current season.

Under the new contract, Chapman will receive a $1 million signing bonus, which is scheduled to be paid on January 15. In addition, his annual salary will be $25 million, bringing his total earnings to $169 million over a seven-season span from 2024 through 2030.

This new agreement builds upon the contract Chapman originally signed with the Giants in March of this year. That initial deal, which guaranteed him $54 million over three seasons, allowed him to opt out after the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It also included a $2 million signing bonus and a salary of $16 million for the 2024 season.

Currently, Chapman is having a standout year, leading the Giants with a .247 batting average, 22 home runs, 69 RBIs, 90 runs, and 33 doubles. His defensive prowess has earned him four Gold Glove awards, underscoring his reputation as one of the premier third basemen in the league.

Over his career, Chapman has maintained a .241 batting average, accumulating 177 home runs and 495 RBIs. His career has included notable stints with the Oakland Athletics from 2017 to 2021, the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 and 2023, and now the Giants.

In 2019, Chapman was also recognized for his exceptional performance by being selected as an All-Star. His consistent ability to contribute both offensively and defensively has made him a valuable asset to every team he’s been a part of.

This new contract underscores the Giants’ confidence in Chapman’s continued impact and their commitment to building a competitive team for the foreseeable future.
