Auburn Nears Deal with Elite 4-Star Miami Linebacker

The excitement surrounding Auburn football is building, with the Tigers’ recruitment efforts gaining momentum and starting to attract high-caliber prospects. Auburn’s recruiting rankings have surged since Big Cat Weekend, and positive developments continue to unfold.

The Tigers kicked off their season on Saturday night against Alabama A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Although the opponent was not highly ranked, the atmosphere at the stadium was electric, and the visiting recruits were energized throughout the game. One notable visitor was 4-star linebacker Elijah Melendez.

Previously committed to Miami, Melendez reversed his commitment just hours before Auburn’s game began. On Monday, he explained to On3 that his decision to decommit was influenced by family considerations and a desire to focus on reaching the NFL. After spending the weekend at Auburn, the Tigers have emerged as the frontrunner in his recruitment.

“It was electric; I didn’t expect it to be such a big atmosphere given the opponent, but it was very impressive,” Melendez told On3. “I would say Auburn is leading. They’re definitely making me feel like a priority.”

Auburn extended a scholarship offer to Melendez in April, and he visited the campus officially over the summer. Hailing from Osceola, Florida, Melendez is ranked as the #17 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class and the #23 overall recruit from Florida. While he has yet to set a decision timeline and is focused on finishing his senior year, all indications suggest that Melendez may soon commit to Auburn.
