He acknowledged that Ben Herbert would be accompanying him to southern California but indicated that the process of appointing coordinators, including U-M’s Jesse Minter and Jay Harbaugh, is still underway. Harbaugh also shared his thoughts on the current status of the Michigan football program and touched on various related topics.

Jim Harbaugh explained his decision to leave Michigan for the NFL after the 2023 college football season, citing a love for both Michigan and the NFL. He expressed a desire for another shot at achieving the title of world champions and winning the Lombardi Trophy. Harbaugh acknowledged the limited time he has and expressed gratitude for the opportunity with the Chargers, emphasizing his eagerness to pursue this mission.

Regarding the state of Michigan football post his departure, Harbaugh endorsed Sherrone Moore as the right person for the job, emphasizing that he sees the team, including the Chargers and Michigan Wolverines, as one collective entity. He praised the team’s top-rated and top-five status, considering them in a great place. Harbaugh likened the transition to a passing of the baton, mentioning the excitement he sees in the new coaching staff and their dedication to the program.

Harbaugh highlighted the enthusiasm and hard work of Sherrone Moore, mentioning ongoing processes with coaches like Jesse Minter and the confirmation of Ben Herbert joining the Chargers. He described the passing of the baton to Justin Tress, emphasizing that Michigan football is in great hands and expressing his unwavering loyalty to the Wolverines.

When asked if there was anything Michigan could have done to retain him, Harbaugh praised Michigan and reiterated his deep affection for the university. However, he affirmed that the opportunity and challenge in the NFL were what he wanted at this stage in his career.
