Clemson Key Player Out With Major Injury

N.C. State is preparing to have freshman CJ Bailey step in as the starting quarterback for their upcoming game against No. 21 Clemson this Saturday. This change comes in light of an injury sustained by the team’s usual starter, Grayson McCall.

Coach Dave Doeren announced on Monday that Bailey will lead the offense after stepping in for McCall during the recent match against Louisiana Tech. McCall, who was sidelined in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury, watched from the sidelines post-game and offered Bailey a congratulatory hug, indicating his support for the young quarterback.

Doeren has indicated that McCall’s status is currently day-to-day, and the team plans to be cautious with his recovery. “We’re going to take our time bringing Grayson back to full health,” Doeren explained. “CJ is ready to step up and will be our starting quarterback until Grayson is fully recovered. We are fully behind him.”

During the game against Louisiana Tech, Bailey demonstrated his potential by completing 13 of his 20 passes for 156 yards, although he did throw one interception. Additionally, he contributed on the ground with four carries for 27 yards and a touchdown. This performance has built confidence around Bailey’s ability to handle the starting role, even under high-pressure circumstances.

Grayson McCall, who previously played five seasons at Coastal Carolina, accumulated over 10,000 passing yards during his college career. However, his season was cut short last October due to a concussion sustained in the seventh game against Arkansas State. This injury and his subsequent recovery have put his return to the field in question.

Coach Doeren expressed optimism about Bailey’s upcoming start, highlighting the importance of support from fans. “I’m excited to see what CJ can bring to the team,” Doeren said. “It’s crucial that whoever is wearing the red and white uniform gets the backing from our supporters. In times like these, the team’s family spirit should shine through—fans should be supportive and keep the team in their thoughts and prayers.”
