Philadelphia Phillies Confirm Signing of First-Round Draft Selection
The Philadelphia Phillies have officially signed their first-round draft pick, an outfielder from Northville High School, as they aim to finalize nearly all of their draft picks before the upcoming deadline next week.
The team has until 5 p.m. Eastern on August 1 to complete their signings.
While the terms of the contract were not disclosed, reports suggest he received a $2.5 million bonus, which is below the slot value of $3.228 million for the No. 27 overall pick. This allows the Phillies to allocate additional funds to other selections, as their salary bonus pool totals $7.381 million for this draft class.
The 19-year-old had an impressive season, batting .477/.575/.748 with a 1.323 OPS, leading his high school team to its first-ever state championship. He recorded 52 runs, 23 extra-base hits, 32 walks, and 20 stolen bases.
He received numerous accolades, including a spot on the MaxPreps All-America First Team and was named the 2024 Michigan Player of the Year by MaxPreps. Additionally, he earned the Mr. Baseball award from the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.
So far, the Phillies have signed 15 of their 20 draft picks, including their second-round selection, who reportedly signed a deal worth $2.5 million—significantly higher than his slot value of $1.352 million.
