The Chicago White Sox are on the verge of closing the worst season in modern MLB history as they prepare to avoid their 122nd loss on Sunday when they face the Detroit Tigers. “By all measures, our on-field performance this season was a failure,” Reinsdorf stated. “As the leader of this organization, that is my ultimate responsibility. There are no excuses.”
The White Sox have endured a challenging season, from underperformance to managerial changes. Pedro Grifol was relieved of his duties earlier this year, with interim manager Grady Sizemore stepping in to finish out the season. Despite Sizemore’s efforts, the team still faces a long road to recovery. General Manager Chris Getz and the front office have an uphill battle ahead to rebuild a competitive roster and return the White Sox to relevance.
Player development will be crucial for Chicago moving forward. The continued progression of their young talent at both the major and minor league levels is priority number one for Getz and the organization. Reinsdorf’s letter also acknowledged the upcoming search for a permanent manager, stating that the organization’s top priority is to find a new leadership voice capable of developing young players and leading the team toward postseason contention.
“Our organization’s most important decision in the coming months is to evaluate and identify a new manager and leadership voice for this organization,” Reinsdorf wrote. “Chris is well underway with this search. He has identified the key attributes and preferences for our next manager and has already begun an exhaustive search with a wide range of candidates to lead the White Sox in the clubhouse and dugout.”
