“Heartbreak for LSU Football: Team Mourns Loss of Coach in Tragic Crash”

The LSU football community is grieving the loss of Charles Baglio, a longtime staff member and cherished figure within the program. LSU officials confirmed that Baglio passed away on Friday night, October 18, following a tragic accident.

According to reports from the Louisiana State Police, Baglio was involved in a vehicle accident in Tangipahoa Parish along US Highway 51 at Kohnke Hill Road. After the initial crash, Baglio stepped out of his vehicle to check on the other driver involved. While returning to his vehicle, Baglio left the shoulder of the road and re-entered the highway. Tragically, he was struck by a separate vehicle traveling southbound on the highway and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Baglio was a beloved member of the LSU football family, having served as the football director of external relations for 20 years. During his tenure, he was part of the program’s success through three national championships, four SEC titles, and served under three different head coaches. His contributions to the program went far beyond his official role, and he was deeply respected by players, coaches, and staff alike.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before his time at LSU, Baglio had a distinguished coaching career at Independence High School, where he served for 34 years, more than 20 of those as head coach. His impact on high school football in Louisiana was immense, with 205 career victories that earned him a place among the top 50 winningest coaches in Louisiana high school football history. His achievements were further recognized in 2001 when he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Charles Baglio’s passing is a heartbreaking loss for the LSU football community and the entire state of Louisiana. His legacy as a coach, mentor, and leader will not be forgotten.
