Boyd Makes the Leap to Senior List.
A remarkable journey, Jordan Boyd‘s story is one of determination and growth. Recruited to IKON Park as a mid-season rookie in 2021 after playing for his local team, Spotswood, in the Western Region Football League, Boyd’s rise has been impressive.
After featuring in seven games in 2022 and nine in 2023, Boyd’s game count skyrocketed in 2024, with 19 appearances before a season-ending adductor injury in Round 22 against Hawthorn.
Known for his headband and long sleeves, Boyd quickly became a key figure in Carlton’s backline. His ferocity at the contest and composure with the ball have earned him a reputation as a reliable and skilled defender, with an impressive disposal efficiency rate of over 78%. One of his standout performances came in Round 6 against GWS, where he played a pivotal role in keeping Toby Greene goalless in a thrilling come-from-behind victory.
At 26, Boyd is recognized for his selflessness and team-first mentality. His pressure off the ball and willingness to put his body on the line have made him a fan favorite and a respected teammate. Under the guidance of senior coach Michael Voss and defensive coach Aaron Hamill, Boyd has become a consistent and reliable defender. His hard work, dedication, and infectious personality have earned him praise from both coaches and teammates.
Having signed a two-year contract extension earlier this year, Boyd is set to remain with Carlton until at least 2026. As the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft approaches, Boyd has been promoted to the senior list, marking a new chapter in his inspiring AFL journey.
